Challenge
Product information is typically distributed across engineering tools, ERP systems, supplier documents and static PDF files. This makes it difficult to provide consistent, up-to-date and machine-readable data throughout the product lifecycle.
At the same time, emerging Digital Product Passport requirements are increasing the need for reliable product identification, standardised information models and controlled data sharing across organisational boundaries.
Approach
The EIRAS reference demonstrator connects a physical product with its digital representation through a standards-based identification layer. Product information is structured using Asset Administration Shell submodels and made available to authorised users and systems through an interoperable data architecture.
The demonstrator combines:
— Product identification using QR codes and standardised identification mechanisms
— Asset Administration Shell submodels
— Structured technical, sustainability and lifecycle information
— Role- and access-controlled data provision
— Integration with existing engineering and enterprise systems
What the demonstrator shows
A user scans the identifier on a physical product and accesses the information relevant to their role. The same data can also be consumed automatically by machines, enterprise applications and digital services.
This turns the Digital Product Passport from a reporting obligation into a reusable product-data infrastructure for service, compliance, circularity and new digital business models.
